Leaves are falling, winter is coming…
I guess you already noticed, days are getting darker... it gets dark at 5 pm or even earlier and the sun only comes up around 8 am... Some people struggle more with it than others but it has some effect on all of us. We are basically sophisticated plants with feelings and thoughts, so we need light and sun!
It's proven that yoga can help with depression (Amy Weintraub ‘Yoga for depression’) and that it has a positive effect on our mood. Movement in general does that, when you exercise your body releases endorphins, also called happy hormones or feel good chemicals.
Yoga specifically has some extra beneficial advantages. It improves the parasympathetic nervous system which helps us relax (by lowering the heart rate and blood pressure) and feeling less anxious. Scientific research from the Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) showed that with only 1 yoga class a week, you can maintain or increase the level of the neurotransmitter GABA.
GABA is an amino acid naturally produced in our brains, it improves our mood, alleviates pain and increases relaxation. Besides all of that GABA plays a role in the regulation of the immune system and metabolism.
And you know what the best thing is?! You can do yoga everywhere, it doesn't cost a lot of money and the benefits are enormous for both body & mind.
